The film is receiving positive reviews everywhere it’s seen–from TwitchFilm to TheFilmStage. Bone Tomahawk jumps from engaging, comprehensive dialogue to emotional investment to unsettling, efficient violence in leaps and bounds.īone Tomahawk premiered not only at South Florida’s Popcorn Frights, but also previously at Fantastic Fest in Austin, TX. The script and its subsequent acting and directing are the highlight of this movie. His debut film, Bone Tomahawk, is an unprecedented piece of filmmaking. Crow Hand!!! opens and shuts so fast, you don’t have time to process. Rest assured that what happens next is an art of visual effects and of massacre. ![]() The man, curious and unaware, picks it up. A man and his lady friend find a crow-shaped artifact in a grocery store parking lot. “Two minutes of heaven”, as described by Popcorn Frights co-founder, Igor Shteyrenberg. ![]() And, most importantly, they love doing it. What Popcorn Frights guests know now is that there are people like Ferman and Shteyrenberg bringing a vital slice of culture to South Florida. “I hope this recent excitement isn’t just another cyclical fad,” said Shteyrenberg, “ but an honest appreciation for the pure hearted and selfless efforts we’re investing to share something wholly new and distinct with our city.” Future films events are near and others are being set up. In regards to the future of Popcorn Frights, Marc Ferman had this to say: “ We will be growing, that is certain. Filmmakers have already started reaching out to us about wanting to be a part of our second year. One thing I know for sure is that we will want to have a wider selection of films.” Ferman is happy that the South Florida community’s response to Popcorn Frights has been “fantastic”, giving him and Igor Shteyrenberg well-earned optimism. This moviegoing experience at O Cinema has been worth writing about.įlorida Film Guy and a very special lady. I met other horror fans, who happen to be some of the nicest people. South Florida finally has a film festival dedicated to the horror genre. This experience has been rewarding on many scales. Upon arriving to the O Cinema last night, I was pleased to introduce my date to the friendly staff, volunteers, and guests I’d grown to know this past weekend. Though they lament the end of the first Popcorn Frights, these men are excited to plan next year’s festival–possibly, on a bigger scale. This festival, among many others in South Florida, was founded by movie lovers Marc Ferman and Igor Shteyrenberg. But first, to recap, Popcorn Frights took place this past weekend at O Cinema Wynwood at N Miami Ave and NW 29th St. I am delighted to write about this movie. The words and images of the film, Bone Tomahawk, will not let you sleep. ![]() On the final night, we were treated to an unforgettable premiere.
